Proceedings of the Eighth World Congress of Veterinary dermatology Bordeaux, France31 May - 4 June 2016From The Book:Tight junctions humans tight junction proteins, such as claudins and occludins, regulate the attachment of keratinocytes and the transition of molecules by forming the second physical barrier. In humans with AD, expression of claudin-1 was shownto be reduced and inversely correlatedwith Th2 biomarkers. 21 Furthermore, identification of claudin-1 SNPsrevealed its association with AD in North American populations. 21 Theseresults suggest that impairments in tightjunctions due to a reduction of claudin-1 contribute to dysfunction of the second physical barrier in humans withAD.
